Today is the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
I have vague memories of the day this happened (I’m dating myself) as I was just in Kindergarten. I had a couple black classmates, and I remember talking to them about Dr. King being shot, and how upset they were (I think mostly because their families were upset).
40 years is a long time. Much has changed, while much has not changed. Advances have been made, and now the country might actually elect a black man as president.
It’s so easy these days with the Internet to find video clips of MLK’s speeches, newsreel footage of his career, and of course the assassination itself. I spent the day looking and listening to many of these things
– and remembering.
