So, I had this new 4X4 pickup truck, and I’d been itching to try it out. There were these hills…and a narrow footpath (at least as wide as the truck)…I’d given it a dry run already, so I knew I could do it…”hey Eric (that’s what we called him in those days) hop in the bed of the truck and we’ll go for a spin…nobody forced him to climb in the back…there was no coercion…willingly he hopped into the back of the truck and willingly we took off up the hill.
Maybe it was the bouncing around, maybe it was the sheer drop-off on one side of the path, but really I have no idea what Ric is talking about when he says I nearly killed him. We had fun making up the hill, and Chris (who was comfortably belted in like I was) had a good laugh hearing Eric’s cries of rejoicing and adoration (I think he might have spoken in tongues that day) coming from the back of the truck.
Here’s a pic of where we went for the spin…I think we went one or two hills further than where you see my truck here, but really it was COMPLETELY safe!
I should tell you that you’re only seeing about half of these hills, and there must have been almost a 30-40% grade getting up to the top (you can’t tell because of the depth of field compression).
Good memories – thanks for the prod, Ric!
