I’ve been pondering how to start talking about Cornerstone. I think I will split my blogs between *featuring* artists (new to me) that I think are worthy of you checking out. Also, I want to discuss the seminars I attended – I’m holding off a little bit on these, because I’ve requested seminar notes from the speakers and I’m waiting for a response.
The most moving experience of the week was witnessing worship dance offered by Native Americans. I was taken by the sacredness of expressing praise to God within the context of their native culture, while at the same time I mourned for the millions of “savages” that were killed in order for our white, European ancestors to claim their manifest destiny.
Why did we not see the beauty, and embrace the people – outside of a cultural context – and simply share the Good News of the Savior with them. I rejoice that there are followers of Jesus within the Native American peoples, and that they are allowed to maintain and preserve their rich cultural and tribal heritage. There is something profound to be learned from our native american brothers and sisters.
