Hopefully many of you have heard of the Invisible Children. This year, IC is focusing on the release of child soldiers who continue to be held hostage and forced to fight someone else’s war.
Please check out their website (just click on the picture above) and prayerfully consider how you may involve yourself.
Oh, and tell your kids.
When Patti and I watched Blood Diamond (a movie with Leonardo DiCaprio) we were crushed by this practice. Unbelievable.
Just wait til you can see the video…
Have you seen the original “Invisible Children”?
In a rather (not) random happenstance, the makers of the film were supposed to show its original film at the same time and place as an InterVarsity meeting in fall 2005. So, we watched the movie and got to talk and meet the guys who made it.
They’ve done a great job at keeping the awareness of this thing up and done some good things to get people active.
I recommend it highly.
I watched the film.
It seems I’ve been watching a long time.
I’m prayerfully considering what can be done…
Brian – that is too cool that you met those guys. A generation of kids that are actually BEING activists instead of just talking about it. Awesome.
Michelle – I hear you. There are specific things you can do in the near term to promote awareness; maybe your eldest would be able to get involved in some way.
Remember the meat of the gospel is TO DO the will of the Father.
This is an astounding story and wrenches my heart! I am in the ministry of a small church and would like email updates as to how we can help and pray.. Thank You for bringing this story to Americans and abroad. Im praying that Jesus move radically here and bring you safety and great blessings. May He bring you peace and joy amidst this tragic journey, yet vitally important. God Bless You and the children soldiers.
Vivian,

The topic is quite hot in the net at the moment. What do you pay attention to while choosing what to write about?
Hi Jane.
That’s an interesting question. I guess I tend to pay attention to the things that are important to the people around me – family, friends, co-workers.
In this instance, my daughter has taken a great interest in the plight of the Invisible Children. She wasn’t able to go on the night commute a couple years ago, so she isn’t going to miss this opportunity to raise awareness.
Pain, suffering, injustice, inhumanity, violations of human rights, sanctity of life issues – these tend to get my attention. Unfortunately, there is no shortage of hot topics in these areas.
Several of my daughter’s friends have asked her, “Why bother? What difference will it make?”
There is an old proverb about a man walking on the beach after a storm at sea has caused thousands of starfish to wash up on the beach. The man is picking up as many starfish as he can and tossing them back into the sea, so that they will not die. Another man happens upon him and asks him, “Why bother? There are thousands of starfish that are going to die – why bother saving a few when so many will die?” To which the man – as he collects yet another starfish and tosses it back into the ocean – responds, “you are right of course, but this particular starfish is grateful that I intervened.”
The problem isn’t so much in seeing a need; it is in doing something about it. My rule of thumb is if you see the need, then you are the one supposed to do something about it.
I hope you are near a city that is participating in the abduction, and that you will allow yourself to particpate.
I couldn’t get the link to work, but this one does:
