I read a little news snippet this morning in the paper that said Rick Warren is publishing a book entitle, “The Purpose of Christmas.” While I am mildly interested in whether he will give an accurate and complete account of the evolution of the holiday we know today, what struck me more was the whole “purpose drive” them in general.
So I was wondering, why am I blogging? What is the purpose? Why do you blog? Does it have a purpose?
(I realize inProgress asked much the same question on her blog, but on the off-chance that there is someone out that that visits my site that doesn’t visit hers, well here it is with my spin…
In short, it is a ministry. But ministry is double-edged so while I feel I may be helping others, others are sooo helping me.
[And I keep forgetting to watch/listen to Broken Things when I get home!!!]
I don’t really care for these purpose driven books as it is. I feel like they’re kind of the fluff of Christian bookstores. I have the Purpose Driven Life and study book, but I was very bored with it and was distracted by how many translations He used. Nobody needs that many translations in one book.
I imagine we blog as a form of expression, maybe a form of worship. Blogging is good vessel for some awesome thoughts, prayers, and just ridiculously funny things and comments. I enjoy it. Keep up the good work 🙂
For me? First and foremost, it satisfies my egocentric yet shyly extroverted craving for attention. It also allows me to consider myself as some sort of ‘writer’.
Secondly, it is another way of acquiring knowledge through all the different encounters with people you otherwise would never meet.
It’s all about me baby!!!
Seriously, it’s a place to share my views and see what others think of them.

People, people, people. I can’t imagine not having my blog family…this weekend when I get home from my trip the first thing I’ll do Sunday night, is check on everyone..I know me! 😉
Bloggers challenge me, pick me up when I’m down, and allow me to do the same.
I’m even into slightly bald, hairy people who love beer…. 😆
Slightly Bald? that’s being generous.
Hairy people? Beer? hey wait a minute…
who u talkin ’bout???
Hairy people who like beer are da coolest….settle down now….LOL
Have a super weekend!
the beauty of a personal blog is that it doesn’t need purpose. it’s a fantastic dumping ground for all your thoughts and ideas…we have way to much going on in life to need to add another thing that requires a lot of thought and purpose.
ric – u may remember the song from that play we did at camp some years ago…
Christina – I need to shout out at ya over at your myspace page. wassup girl? what’s the word on Amber? The most intriguing part about TPDL was Chapter One – it’s not about you. Deep.
Christian – I have a shyly extroverted yen for some of your cooking! (hint)
Robert – wise and profound.
yippee-kay-ay Deb!!!
Vince – thanks for dropping by. Interesting perspective this thought that the blog is a dumping ground for thoughts and ideas. Maybe that should be my goal for daily blogging-just throw out an idea or thought.
I like it!
Ha, I just wrote about this today.
Although, I wouldn’t say purpose as much as value. I don’t care what purpose my blog has as long as it continues or starts to have value.
